Washington Post Staff Writers
Sunday, September 9, 2007;

A college student missing for more than a week was found dehydrated late yesterday on a roadside in Prince George’s County, and he told authorities he had finally managed to extricate himself from his car, which had plunged into a nearby ravine.

Julian McCormick, 18, a first-year student at Bowie State University, had been the object of an intensive search since he failed to keep an appointment with his girlfriend Sept. 1.

HOUSTON — At four blasts of a drum major’s whistle, the Marching Storm, Prairie View A&M University’s 250-piece marching band, invaded the football field at Reliant Stadium here in columns spread evenly across 80 yards. The Tipitina’s Foundation decided to use music to make music, enlisting the aid of local musicians and celebrity performers to raise money to buy instruments for New Orleans’ struggling schools. (CBS)

(CBS) Until two years ago, the first thing that came to mind at the mention of New Orleans was music. It was everywhere - pouring from the clubs, and the streets and the schools.

And then came Hurricane Katrina and a flood of water that nearly drowned those unmistakable New Orleans sounds. That first Mardi Gras after the storm, there were parades and the city struggled to regain its rhythm. But something was missing: the marching bands. There was only one New Orleans-based marching band left in the city.

It’s Halftime!!!!!!

September 1, 2007

Saturday afternoons in the fall mean college football. But Saturday afternoons at historically Black colleges and universities mean Showtime!

No matter how good or bad a team is, no matter how good or bad the game is, two things are a given at a HBCU game One, someone goes home happy — after all, their team won. Two, and most important — no one goes to the bathroom during halftime.

Let’s be real here — while normal Division I school bands march — HBCU bands strut. Division I school bands sing fight songs; HBCUs live them. Division I schools play; HBCUs perform.
